ABOUT SYLVAN GLEN ESTATE

History

When Donna and Matt Hescott purchased Sylvan Glen Estate over 20-years ago, it was known as a nine-hole golf course, with a 7-bedroom guesthouse.

Sylvan Glen Estate’s idyllic charm has continued to evolve, with recent changes and upgrades adding more value for couples for their wedding weekend.

The property is situated in the quaint town of Penrose, on the outskirts of the Southern Highlands. Sitting on 60-acres, Sylvan Glen Estate offered picturesque woodland trees, manicured gardens and the nine-hole golf course still remains for guests to use during their stay.

The property’s history dates to 1870, originally establishing as a guest house and hosting its first wedding in 1903. Once World War One commenced, Sylvan Glen Estate was used as a recovery guest house for soldiers during a post conflict and again during and post-World War Two. The venue has further been used as a farm and an orchard – with orchards remaining on the property dating back over 120 years.

Today Sylvan Glen Estate is a multi-award-winning venue, offering couples capacity to host close family and friends at the property for the weekend to celebrate their nuptials.

Accommodation

The property has capacity for 42-guests to stay on-site through the guesthouse accommodation. Each room comes with a separate ensuite, If available, Scribbly Cottage, another guest house on the far side of the property can accommodate up to 18-guests. Scribbly Cottage can now also be used for small intimate daytime weddings for up to 30 guests.

The Orchard Ceremony Garden

The property features several picture-perfect locations, including the beautiful ceremony stage set in the original orchard. This ceremony location has twice been awarded Best ceremony venue NSW.

The new 40m isle garden path creates a stunning and dramatic entrance for the bridal party to enter Its also complemented with the arbour being dressed in overgrown ivy. The ivy was planted when the arbour was built by Donna’s stepfather over 10 years ago. Another beautiful feature to this location at Sylvan Glen Estate, is the fact the ceremony garden is one of the last locations to still have the original orchards from when the property began. These orchards are estimated to be over 120 years old.

The Chapel

Should mother nature decide differently on your big day. During the pandemic, Matt built the newest addition A Chapel, It’s a beautiful dwelling made from recycled materials and close in proximity to the main guest house. This dwelling offers a rustic charm theme to your special day.

Bridal Facilities

Sylvan Glen Estate offers beautiful facilities for the couple for their weekend. The bridal suite, is privately situated next to the main guest house, overlooking the valley. It offers the couple complete privacy and is a separate dwelling to the other communal areas. Brides and bridesmaids get ready in the Salon; another location separate the main guest house. The salon is decorated with beautiful antique furniture, carrying a rustic charm to the room. And everything you need is covered.

The groom and the groomsmen generally utilise the private golf course on the property in the morning. Once the morning cardio is achieved, the groom and groomsmen can get ready in the guest house, complete with the pool table, small bar, and a sitting area. The popular use of cigars is permitted outside the dwelling.

It can’t go unnoticed as to just how much Sylvan Glen has to offer to couples. The food is homemade, Donna’s decorations can suit almost every theme imaginable and if you have a question, Donna is on hand to assist.
